Here’s a question for you: What are you made of? What are you really made of and how will you achieve great success? When push comes to shove, when the rubber meets the road, when the chips are down, and when you clear your mind what lies at the very core of your pillars of character?
Discovering Your Pillars of Character
You learn what you’re really made of only when things go wrong and you are tumbled, end over end, by some adversity or setback that hits you like a Mack truck coming out of an alley. Since your behaviors on the outside are the real indicators of who you are on the inside, only by observing how you behave when things go wrong can you tell what you really have inside you and of what your pillars of character consist of.
How to View Setbacks
Let’s make one thing clear at the beginning.
Your primary goal should be to increase the likelihood that you will be one of those remarkable people who achieves greatly and makes a real difference with his or her life. And this is very much in your own hands.
To realize your full potential, you must focus on your career goals, hard work and success factors.
Ken Blanchard and Norman Peale wrote a book together called The Fortunate 500. They looked at the top 20 percent of companies in each industry, those companies that had consistently achieved higher levels of profitability than those in the bottom 80 percent in the same industry. The top 20 percent of the companies were also, known for having a positive progressive work environment with strong business ethics and were ranked at the top best places to work.
Allow yourself to dare to dream big dreams. Decide what’s right and seize the day before you decide what’s possible. Imagine your future as ideal in every respect, and remember: Whatever others have done, within reason, you can probably do as well so just do it.
The great Supreme Court Justice, Oliver Wendell Holmes, once said that there are three types of people: the people who make things happen, the people who watch what’s happening, and the people who haven’t the slightest idea of what’s happening. Today, as never before, our society is experiencing a pressing need for great leadership.
This need for leadership can be felt in our homes, in our business organizations, in our private and public associations, and in our government.
You become what you think about most of the time. If you sincerely want to be rich, to achieve all your financial goals and to retire as a self-made millionaire, one of the smartest things you can do is to develop the habits of thinking and acting that have enabled hundreds of thousands, and even millions of other people to become self-made millionaires. These habits of financial success are learnable, as all habits are, by practice and repetition.
